Press Release NCL Salten Grounding
Haugesund, 22 May 2025: NCL (North Sea Container Line AS) ship NCL Salten ran agroundoutside Trondheim, Norway in the morning of 22 May 2025. There have been no injuries to personnel or bystanders.
"NCL is committed to maintaining the highest safety standards for our personnel, ships, and the environment. The ship’s crew and bystanders are safe. We are currently assessing the damage and the implications for NCL’s services, and will initiate a full investigation into the root causes behind the accident," says NCL’s Managing Director Bente Hetland.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (Hovedredningssentralen) is on-site, assisting with the coordination of the recovery operations and ensuring the safety of everyone involved.
NCL has mobilised a response team to inspect the site and begin recovery operations.
“Our priority is to safely refloat the vessel and restore normal operations as swiftly as possible. We appreciate the cooperation and support from local authorities and our partners during this process,” says Bente Hetland.
NCL has informed customers about possible delays and is pursuing solutions to minimise the impact for those affected. The first attempt to remove the ship from ground was unsuccessful.
The next attempt will be conducted this evening.
