We would like to inform our customers about a change in departure day for containers from Rotterdam and Moerdijk to Tananger.

From week 6 and until futher notice, the vessels MV Lady Carina and MV Lady Clarissa will call Tananger in addition to the ports Trondheim (Orkanger) and Mosjoen. This implies that all containers from Rotterdam and Moerdijk to Tananger will sail Thursdays instead of Fridays. Arrival in Tananger will be Saturdays.

For short-sea containers via Moerdijk, we ask our customers to send us bookings no later than Wednesday afternoon, with closing at Moerdijk at 12.00hrs Thursdays.

If you have any questions regarding this change, please feel free to contact us.

Haugesund 8th feb 2011.

NORTH*SEA CONTAINER LINE (NCL) would like to inform all customers and connections about some internal changes of vessels on our different services.

From week 45, our largest vessel MV Celina will be phased into our Rotterdam - North Norway service, covering ports such as Aalesund, Maaloey and Salten. This will give both our northbound and southbound customers additional capacity on this route.

From the same week, MV ANNA will be phased into our Rotterdam - West Coast service, with sailings from Rotterdam every Friday. With higher speed and better capacity than the vessel currently covering this service, our customers can be safe that their containers will reach its destination on time.

Please refer to our daily updated schedule here for more details.

If you need additional info about these changes, please feel free to contact NORTH*SEA CONTAINER LINE on +47 5270 0140.

Shortsea is known as a sustainable transport modality. This is definitely true as far as Norway is concerned. Shortsea saves road kilometres, costs and the environment. Moreover more cargo can be shipped in one unit. This and more can be read in the recently published factsheet on Norway by Shortsea Promotion Centre Holland (see http://www.shortsea.nl/index.php?redirect_news=1&id=4709).

Norway is a vast country, but the cargo still can be unloaded close to the receiver, as almost every coastal town has its own quay. In this way a large amount of road kilometres can be saved. Also money is saved, because shortsea transport to Norway is about 20% cheaper on most routes.

With shortsea more cargo per unit can be transported. Road transport has a limit of 40 tonnes (truck, trailer and cargo). When a container is shipped by shortsea, the maximum allowed weight for delivery by road is 44 tonnes: therefore more cargo at lower costs.

The environment is spared by using shortsea transport. Shortsea transport is by nature already environment friendly, except for sulphur and NOx emissions, but measures have been taken to reduce these emissions. On the North Sea and the seas north of the Netherlands vessels are only allowed to use fuel with a sulphur content of max. 1,0%. The sulphur emissions will diminish drastically as a result. The Norwegian government contributes by giving a rebate on harbour dues for vessels that contribute to NOx reduction.

Our other services from Rotterdam covering other ports (Måløy, Ålesund, Høgset, Trondheim/Orkanger, Bodø/Salten) remains unchanged.

We know that this change will be warmly welcomed by many of our short sea customers, giving yet another good argument to choose sea transport for cargo between the Continent and Norway. From 01.09.2010 there will be a new deadline for container deliveries at the Skutevika terminal in Ålesund. For containers booked on our Hamburg/Bremerhaven service, containers will have to be delivered latest Thursdays at 1600 hrs. This cut off is being introduced in order to be able to produce documents in time before vessel departures.

NCL recently added new capacity on the Hamburg/Bremerhaven - West Coast Norway service with the 677-teu vessel MV Celina. Together with our 6 other vessels NCL can offer a stable and reliable service for both overseas and European cargo. Read more about our services here.

Due to increased demands and volumes, NORTH*SEA CONTAINER LINE (NCL) are pleased to announce  increased capacity and service.

The 677-TEU vessel MV Celina will be phased into our existing service in week 33,  enabling us to carry around 300 loaded teus every week between West-Norway to the Continent.  This modern vessel  is equipped with 125 reefer-plugs and 2 x45 tons cranes.

NCL has been the major player on the Norwegian West Coast for 17 years, which has given us the experience and knowledge of how to serve our customers in the best way. Our qualified staff both at the headquarters in Haugesund and at our agents along the entire coast knows how to meet the requirements our customers have towards simplicity and professionalism.

The extra vessel will be employed in our Hamburg/Bremerhaven service, where it will cover the important fishery ports, together with our vessel MV Anna.

Adding this to our Rotterdam services consisting of 5 modern container vessels, (Carina, Clarissa, Tina,  Emma, North Express) we will be able to cover a large share of the frozen fish being exported from Norway. Geographically we cover the range from Bodø (Salten) in the north to Egersund in the south.

The ongoing conflict between The Norwegian Transport Workers Union (NTF) and The Norwegian Logistics and Freight Association (LTL) will from next week be escalated to also affect other terminals than in the Oslo area.

We can however inform all customers and business partners that NCL will not be affected by the strike so far, as all our shore based partners will run with business as usual. Our customers can therefore rest assured that their cargo will be shipped as normal.

Should you have any questions regarding this, please feel free to contact us.

NCL is known to be a flexible shipping line, with an urge to satisfy our customers every day. This week we see yet another example of this.

Because of high volumes on our popular route between Trondheim / Orkanger and Rotterdam, NCL have chartered an extra vessel in order to fulfill the demand for transport from our customers. The vessel is the 330 TEU MV ANJA, and is chartered for one voyage between Rotterdam and Trondheim.

NCL has an unique express service from the Continent  to Trondheim, with sailings every Thursday from Rotterdam, and arrival the following Monday morning. Hamburg and Bremerhaven is connected through transshipment.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us!

Due to Christian holidays, there will be a minor schedule change in week 20 for containers from Rotterdam and Moerdijk to Trondheim. Instead of the normal sailing on Thursday 20/5, all containers for Trondheim will be shipped with MV Tina, sailing Tuesday 18/5 from Rotterdam.

Closing for short sea containers at CCT Moerdijk is 17/5 at 12.00hrs.

Please note that this only affects the sailing in week 20.

If you should need further information, please feel free to contact us!

NORTH*SEA CONTAINER LINE (NCL) will in week 39 introduce the 7th vessel in its service, when the 519-TEU MV "Atlantic Hawk" is entering on time charter. With this vessel NCL seeks to offer even more capacity and even better service to its customers throughout the peak season.

As a consequence, NCL will from week 39 offer two vessels on the Hamburg/Bremerhaven service and five vessels on the Rotterdam-service.

NCL is pleased to announce a capacity increase from week 34, when MV ANNA will return into the NCL service. MV Anna, who usually carries containers to and from the Norwegian west coast, has the latest weeks been sailing quite a special voyage. In the beginning of July she loaded wheat-flour in Antwerp and started sailing for Sierra Leone. After 12 days sailing, including bunkering in Las Palmas, she reached the destination.

This picture is taken while discharging the cargo in Freetown, an operation lasting almost a week. MV Anna, with capt Knutsen as master, will soon start sailing back to Europe, where she will be ready for the Norwegian fishery peak season.

The growth of Asian container ports have the latest years been sky high - something which is also visble in the statistics from 2008. Rotterdam, which presently is the only European container port in the "top 10 list", has been passed by both Dubai, Guangzhou and Ningbo-Zhoushan, and now find itself as number 9 with around 11 million TEUs in 2008.

On the top of the list we find Singapore with almost 30 million TEUs in 2008, which has doubled its numbers since 1998. The second largest container port in the world is Shanghai with 28 million TEUs. In 1998, Shanghai handled only 3 million TEUs (!).

The rest of the list is as follows:
3. Hong Kong         24,5 mill TEUs
4. Shenzen             21,4 mill TEUs
5. Busan                 13,4 mill TEUs
6. Dubai                 11,8 mill TEUs
7. Guangzhou        11 mill TEUs
8. Ningbo               10,8 mill TEUs
9. Rotterdam         10,8 mill TEUs
10. Qingdao           10,4 mill TEUs

From week 23 our Hamburg/Bremerhaven service will be served by the vessel MV North Express, as MV Anna will be employed elsewhere during the summer period. MV North Express will cover the whole range of West Coast Norway, from Egersund in the south to Ålesund in the north. In addition, containers to and from North Norway (Trondheim/Orkanger and Salten) will be transshipped at the Norwegian coast.

MV North Express is the largest and fastest vessel in the NCL fleet, with a nominal intake of 592 TEUS, including 80 reefer plugs. This enables us to fulfil our customer's requirements to and from West coast Norway.

For more information, please see our daily updated schedule or contact NORTH*SEA CONTAINER LINE headoffice in Haugesund at +47 5270 0140.

As earlier mentioned, NCL will from 1st April 2009 change terminals from RST-N to CCT Moerdijk. The change will only affect short sea shipments, as the service on ECT-Delta will remain unchanged.

The last NCL vessel on RST-N will be MV North Express, ETS 30-31. march 2009. From 1st April, all vessels on our Rotterdam-Norway services will call CCT Moerdijk instead of RST. Consequently, containers must be delivered to CCT for sailings after this date.

For further details and information, please contact our Rotterdam office, ph +31 180 441133 or NCL headoffice ph +47 5270 0130.

NORTH*SEA CONTAINER LINE have strengthened our organization, by engaging Mayra Baldini Liknes and Ståle Jakobsen as new operational employees. This will ensure that we have full control over the abt 70.000 TEUs shipped by NCL each year, and that we will be best-in-class giving the proper service to our customers.
In addition, Ruth Henriksen started already last year at our finance department as accountant.

We are pleased to announce that our vessel MV ANNA is now sailing again after docking. This implies that we now are back to our normal schedule with to weekly calls in both Hamburg and Bremerhaven.

This extended service from Hamburg and Bremerhaven to Westcoast Norway gives our customers a better flexibility, reduced lead times and less terminal costs. We are pleased to learn that our customers' request for two weekly sailings has been noted and also used.

For more information, see our daily updated schedules here.

NORTH*SEA CONTAINER LINE regret to announce that MV ANNA will be dry docked in Hamburg this week, and will not return into normal service until the end of week 11. The second sailing between Hamburg/Bremerhaven and Westcoast Norway will therefore be cancelled. We ask our customers to book on our other Hamburg/Bremerhaven-service.

For further information, see our daily updated schedules here or contact us on +47 5270 0140.

Please be informed that NORTH*SEA CONTAINER LINE AS during 1st quarter 2009 will make some improvements in our Rotterdam services.

The main change is the change of terminal for our Short Sea activities, by moving out of the busy and partly congested Rotterdam to the new and modern terminal of CCT in Moerdijk (www.cctmoerdijk.com). The full style of the terminal is:

CCT Combined Cargo Terminals BV,
Graanweg 19
4782 PP Moerdijk

Our activities on ECT Delta will remain unchanged.

Our vessels mv Carina and mv Clarissa have been calling this terminal for some time, and our other vessels presently in this service, mv Tina and mv North Express will change during Q1.

By doing this we will obtain a much less congested terminal, with modern facilities for storage, stuffing, stripping etc. In addition, the terminal is ideally situated to rail, barge facilities and trucking.

At the same time, we will also improve our services by using mv Carina and mv Clarissa more actively. Since these vessels already call the CCT terminal, kindly note that:

  • Cargos to Tananger, Haugesund, Lyngdal and Trondheim (Orkanger) to be booked on mv Carina and mv Clarissa with immediate effect. Cargos to Bergen can also be booked on these vessels, but preferably on our ordinary vessels mv Tina and mv North Express, as this is a direct route.

Carina / Clarissa will have weekly departures every Wednesday/Thursday with ETA Tananger/Haugesund on Saturday, and Orkanger and Bergen on Mondays.

Tina / North Express will maintain their schedules as earlier.

NORTH*SEA CONTAINER LINE (NCL) is pleased to announce improved services in the changing market situations. NCL are operating a fleet of six modern container vessels. Two vessels will be engaged in our new, improved service from Hamburg and Bremerhaven. The improved service will offer two sailings a week to the mainports of West Norway, Stavanger (Tananger) and Bergen. In order to provide first-class services, there will be one sailing in the beginning and one at the end of each week.

The remaining ports (Haugesund, Knarrevik, Fusa, Floroe, Maaloey, Aalesund, Ikornnes, Trondheim, Bodø, and other ports on inducement), will be served minimum once a week.

The remaining four vessels calling Rotterdam, will still serve the West- and North Norway, including several industrial ports.

NCL hopes this will give our customers a better service, reduced lead times and less terminal costs.

The latest months NCL has released several quizes to challenge people working with transport and logistics. Every month up to November, a lucky and clever person will win a HTC Touch Diamond mobile telephone. We are now pleased to announce the winner of the mobile for October, who is:

Johan W. Cappelen, Sales & marketing manager of Tank Management AS in Oslo!

We congratulate Mr Cappelen with his new mobile telephone, which shows he has understood the advantages of using North*Sea Container Line AS between the Continent and Norway.

Keep your eyes open for the quizes of November, and you can be the winner of the last HTC Touch Diamond!

In September, we started our theree-legged quiz, where we challenge people working with transport and logistics to think differently. Each month, we will reward one of the responders with the correct answer with a brand new HTC Touch Diamond mobile telephone! We are now pleased to announce the first winner, who is Ivar Jenssen, Branch Manager for DB Schenker in Bodø. He will receive the super trendy telephone from us shortly, as a symbol on his excellent logistical knowledge.

The winner has shown that he knows that NCL probably has the smartest and most effective alternative to trucks from the Continent to Norway.

You didn't win this time? Don't worry, there are still new chances to win! Keep an eye out for our next quiz which will be announced in the middle of October!

The latest year, NCL has worked hard to develop a reliable and attractive door-to-door transport product for intra-European shipments. Today, we are proud to say that we are one of the most important transport players between the European Continent and the western and northern parts of Norway. With our weekly departures from Rotterdam, Hamburg and Bremerhaven, our customers can plan their logistcal needs with high precision.

Every week, NCL transports 70-100 TEUs from the Continent to Norway, and more and more companies see the opportunities in reducing the logistic costs without reducing the quality. In 2008 we have increased the number of short-sea containers shipped by 30%. This shows that cargo that traditionally has been transported by truck, easily can be transported in our palletwide containers by sea.

Are you too interested in reducing the transport costs from Europe to Norway? Contact us to get more information on our  services and rates!

This fall, NCL would like to challenge you who is working with logistics and transport to think differently!

The NCL Short Sea solution is probably the best and most profitable transport alternative between the European Continent and westcoast Norway. With our weekly sailings from Rotterdam, Hamburg and Bremerhaven, we can offer our customers a reliable door-to-door transport solution.

Companies and forwarders with good knowlegde of logistics therefore have the possibility to reduce the transport costs remarkable, compared to traditional road transport. Our reliable service give our customers a predictable and secure transport solution, knowing that their cargo will arrive as planned.

We challenge you ! Contact us to get to know how to reduce the transport costs by thinking differently!

Througout 2008 NCL has implemented a new booking-, operational-, and financial computer system. The software "SoftShip" is now in use at all our agent offices in Europe and Norway, as well as the NCL Headquarters in Haugesund, Norway. The new system allows the entire NCL-family to work more efficiently; including booking-control, planning of operational work on board our ships, capacity control and correct invoicing. "Even though we had some minor "bugs" in the start, the implementation of "SoftShip" has now shown to be a success", says NCLs Managing Director Arne Jakobsen. "I would like to point out the positive spirit shown by our agents and employees during this period, proving that our organization has got the right attitude towards giving our customers the best possible service", he continues. At a meeting in Haugesund earlier this month, our agents and employess agreed upon that the system had been giving them an easier workday, and our goal is that this also will be for the benefit for our customers.

The software is produced and delivered by the German company "Softship AG", and is used by several major shipping lines around the world.

NCL shortens the lead time

It is with great pleasure that we can inform that we are improving our service to the Trondheim area.

Our direct service from Rotterdam will now call our terminal in the region, Orkanger both on the Northbound and the Southbound voyages.

This mean that the lead time from Rotterdam will only be 4-5 days. The same will apply also for the southbound voyages.

Transhipment for cargoes to / from Hamburg and Bremerhaven can also be arranged.

Orkanger is part of the Trondheim Harbour District, and in close co-operation with our loacl agent, we may offer truckings/depot/stuffing/stripping to very competitive rates.

We hope you will find same of interest, and please don't hesitate to contact us for further information.

Haugesund, 19. november 2007

NCL put a new vessel into service.

Traffic jam on the Continent and increased cost on trucks have forced many companies to look for alternative transports. NCL have therefore placed a newer and bigger vessel into service, replacing the smallest 'ANDRA'. The new vessel, 'ANNA' is abt 5000 tdw with a container capacity of abt 370 teu, whereof 50 containers can be reefer containers. It is further equipped with 2 x 40 t cranes.

'ANNA' is fiexed for a long period, and will enter our service between Rotterdam and Mid and North Norway. NCL is the only operator with direct sailings from the Continent to this area.
The weekly service offers almost the same lead time as trucks, but often to lower prices. Please don't hestitate to contact us in order to find out yourselves.

Haugesund, 12. mars 2007

Increased volumes and results.

North*Sea Container Line AS (NCL) increased the freight revenues to NOK 220 millons last year. The result before taxes increased with 27% to NOK 22 mill.

The good result can be related to the increased number of containers that are being shipped to and from Norway. There is a clear tendency that more cargoes now are being shipped instead of trucked. The lack of truck drivers and congestions on the roads, both in Norway and on the Continent, makes the container transport at sea a very competetive alternative.

NCL was established in 1994, and is tody running a modern liner service between Germany, Netherlands and UK to Norway, from Lyngdal in south to Bodoe area in the north. 6 vessels are employed in the services, whereof two are owned and the other four are on long term time charter arrangements.

NCL is expecting a further increase in the volumes. The growth in the Norwegian economy combined with the congested roads on the Continent will lead to shipment of more containers. This will require bigger vessels, and more information will follow within short.
